Girls and Boys Basketball Recaps for Nov. 16-17

Friday, November 16, 2012:

ELLAVILLE, Ga.- The First Presbyterian Day School girls (1-0) and boys (1-0) basketball teams swept the Schley County Wildcats en route to gaining two season opening victories on the road Friday night.

In the girls game, FPD pounded out a 59-33 win. The Vikings led 27-18 at halftime, and outscored the Wildcats 32-13 in the second half. Savannah Phillips paced the Vikings with 14 points and Lizzie Lisenby posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bonnie Scurry also chipped in with 10 points while Hannah Davis had nine points all on three-pointers.

The boys also cranked out a double-digit victory, defeating the Wildcats 53-40 despite three starters with four fouls each midway through the third quarter.

O’Showen Williams led the Vikings in scoring with 18 points and six assists. Caleb Dupree posted a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds prior to fouling out. TJ Sams also knocked down 13 points in the Viking win.


Saturday, November 17, 2012:

WARNER ROBINS, Ga.- After two victories to open the season, the First Presbyterian Day School girls and boys basketball teams completed its back-t0-back with a visit to Houston County High School on Saturday, November 17.

In the girls game, the Vikings (1-1) could not stop a high powered Bear offense that posted over 60 points as the girls fell 61-26. Savannah Phillips led the Vikings on the evening with 10 points.

The boys game saw a back and forth battle, but the Vikings (2-0) persevered and rattled off a 61-59 victory.

The boys were down 25-18 at the half, but outscored the Bears 42-34 in the second half including 19-12 in a key tone-setting third quarter.

TJ Sams led the Vikings offensively, draining 20 points on the night. O’Showen Williams posted 16 points after recording 18 just a day before. Caleb Dupree also chipped in nicely with 17 points. Altogether, Sams, Williams and Dupree scored 53 of FPD’s 61 points.

Both the girls and boys basketball teams are off the week of Thanksgiving. The Vikings return to the court on Friday, November 30, hosting Schley County for the home opener at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center. The girls tip things off at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.

The girls and boys defeated Schley County in the 2012-13 season opener 59-33 and 53-40, respectively.
