Jenna Byrd and Claire Crawford to Play in Georgia Dugout Club All-Star Game

MACON, Ga.- After making the 2012 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class A Private School State Playoffs, the First Presbyterian Day School softball team (18-13, 6-1 Reg. 7A) and head coach Jim Turner are pleased to announce two players will represent the squad in the Georgia Dugout Club All-Star Weekend held at Mercer University in Macon on November 16 and 17.

FPD seniors Jenna Byrd and Claire Crawford were selected as All-State selections by GHSA Softball coaches will participate for the Vikings.

Byrd had a stellar 2012 season for the Red & Black, posting a .493 batting average with seven doubles, four home runs and 29 RBI’s. Prior to hurting her ACL, Byrd was spectacular in the circle, recording an 8-1 record for the Vikings with a 1.92 ERA. Byrd’s strikeout to walk ratio was better than 2:1. The senior also scattered just 37 hits over 47.1 innings.

Crawford was instrumental in aiding the Viking offense in 2o12 along with her fundamental presence at catcher behind the dish. The slugger hit .488, recording 39 hits in 80 at-bats. Crawford drove in 19 and scored 35 runs. She ranked fourth all-time in FPD Fastpitch in career batting average (.340), hits (122), and single-season hits (39). The righty is first in career triples with nine and is third in career runs scored with 94.

The all-star weekend will kickoff with a skills competition, a homerun derby and awards banquet on Friday, November 16. All games will be played on Saturday, November 17.

The Region 7 team will face Region 1 at 9:00 a.m. followed by two afternoon contests against Region 5 at 12:30 p.m. and Region 3 at 4:00 p.m.
