Basketball Sweeps Twiggs County on the Road

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ga.- Looking to quickly get back on track after dropping its region opener, the First Presbyterian Day School girls and boys basketball teams did just that, defeating Twiggs County on the road on Tuesday night, January 8 to claim its first region victories of the season.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings (5-8, 1-1) used a 21 point performance from junior guard Savannah Phillips to win convincingly 55-24. Lizzie Lisenby was a force on the boards, corralling 14 rebounds.

The ladies saw themselves down by five at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Vikings scored 21 points in the second quarter and held the Lady Cobras to just two points.

Along with the solid performance from Phillips, Hannah Davis scored eight points as did Lisenby.

The boys game was a back and forth battle, but a 19 point fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Vikings (7-7, 1-1), winning 69-61.

FPD trailed 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Vikings held the Cobras to eight points in the second quarter while scoring 25.

TJ Sams led the Vikings in scoring, netting 25 points on the night. Caleb Dupree scored 16 and Reggie Gantt chipped in with 14, respectively.

The Vikings also capitalized from the charity stripe, knocking in 14-of-17 from the free throw line.

Both basketball squads are back in action on Friday, January 11 traveling to Eagles Landing Christian Academy for games at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
