Basketball Sweeps Weekend Games Against Twiggs, ELCA

MACON, Ga.- The First Presbyterian Day School girls and boys basketball teams had a successful weekend, gaining two wins each, en route to defeating region opponent Twiggs County High School and non-region foe Eagles Landing Christian Academy.

On Friday, January 25, the Lady Vikings and Vikings welcomed Twiggs County to the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings (10-10) won in convincing fashion, defeating Twiggs  66-29.

An offensive outpour in the first quarter aided in the victory. FPD scored 27 points in the first frame while holding the Lady Cobras to just 11 points.

Junior guard Savannah Phillips paced the Lady Vikings with 17 points, while Lizzie Lisenby chipped in with nine points on the night.

On Saturday, the Lady Vikings defeated Eagles Landing Christian Academy (ELCA) 51-36, putting its season record at .500 for the first time since Dec. 7.

Phillips posted 21 points in the victory, while junior guard Caroline Stroud knocked in 12 points.

The Vikings also saw good fortune on the last weekend in January, gaining two wins.

On Friday, FPD Vikings (11-10) showed its high-powered offense, posting an 81-49 win against Twiggs.

Junior guard TJ Sams led the way for the Vikings, scoring a game-high 28 points. Freshman point guard O’Showen Williams helped out, dropping in 22 points while senior forward Caleb Dupree scored 17.

The Vikings’ perimeter shooting was spot-on all weekend, draining six 3-pointers in the game against Twiggs and eight against ELCA.

In the contest against ELCA, the Vikings used balanced scoring and a big night from Dupree to win 79-40.

Dupree drained 25 points on the afternoon, 13 of which came in the first quarter. Sams and Williams were impressive again, scoring 19 and 11, respectively. Senior guard Kaleb Fuller also had nine points in the Viking victory.

Both basketball teams return to action on Friday, February 1, traveling to Wilkinson County for region games. The girls game starts at 6:00 p.m. and the boys follow at 7:30.

Wilkinson County defeated FPD back on Jan. 15, taking the girls game 53-44 and winning the boys match 102-76.
