Basketball Sweeps GMC on Senior Night, Dupree Nets 1,000th Career Point

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School basketball teams won its final regular season games on Tuesday, Feb. 5, defeating the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs of Georgia Military College Prep (GMC) on Senior Night.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings (12-11, 4-4 Reg. 7A), backed by the hot shooting of senior guard Hannah Davis, defeated the Lady Bulldogs 45-22.

Davis nailed five 3-pointers in the contest, four coming in the first half of play. Junior guard Savannah Phillips scored 10 points on the night as well.

FPD’s defense was the story all evening, holding GMC to single digits in scoring every quarter of the game.

In the boys game, the Vikings (13-11, 3-5 Reg. 7A) used a 28 point performance by senior forward Caleb Dupree to win in convincing fashion 74-62. Junior guard TJ Sams also chipped in with 27 points.

FPD trailed 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, but a 21 point outburst in the second quarter coupled with holding GMC to just nine points aided the Vikings in the victory.

In the fourth quarter, Dupree knocked in his 1,000th point of his illustrious three year career. The senior has averaged 19.3 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per contest during his senior season.

Dupree joins an elite group of boys basketball players that have scored at least 1,000 points in their career at FPD: Barry Veal (class of 1983), Austin Royal (’05), Jeff Tucker (’80), and Mack Loyd (’98).

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
