Girls Basketball Drops Region Tournament Title Game to Wilkinson County

SPARTA, Ga. – Junior guard Savannah Phillips scored 18 points for the Lady Vikings, but it wasn’t enough to stop Ngozi Ware and the Wilkinson County High School Lady Warriors who claimed the GHSA’s automatic berth into the State Tournament by defeating FPD 45-31 in the Region 7-A Tournament Championship game on Saturday night, Feb. 16.

Ware scored 28 points for the Lady Warriors to secure the victory.

FPD trailed by six at halftime, 18-12, and by nine at the end of the third quarter, 33-24.

The Lady Warriors outscored FPD 12-6 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Senior guard Hannah Davis chipped in with four points for the Lady Vikings while senior guard Bonnie Scurry scored three points.

With the loss, the Lady Vikings will await the final GHSA Power Rankings to see if they will earn an entry into the state tournament.

The top sixteen teams in the Class A private schools will play for a shot at a state title. The most recent poll had FPD at no. 21 on Feb. 12. Final power rankings will be released by the GHSA office on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
