Girls Basketball to Play for Region Tournament Championship!

SPARTA, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School girls basketball team (14-11) carried the momentum of its first round tournament win against Lincoln County this past Tuesday into the semifinals, defeating Hancock Central 53-35 on Friday, Feb. 15 to advance to the region tournament championship game.

Senior Hannah Davis netted 21 points, including five 3-pointers, in the victory and junior Savannah Phillips scored 18.

The Lady Vikings led 29-20 at halftime and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 24-15 in the second half. FPD also hit clutch free throws down the stretch, going 15-of-20 from the charity stripe on the evening.

FPD will play Wilkinson County on Saturday, Feb. 16 for the GHSA Class A Region 7 title with the winner earning an automatic berth into the state playoffs.

Prior to tonight’s tournament victory, the Vikings fell twice this season to Hancock Central. The Lady Bulldogs claimed wins on Jan. 4, winning 27-26 as well as a 39-26 triumph on Jan. 22.

The five 3-pointers by Davis brings her season total to 63, a new school record she earned in the previous game against Lincoln County.

Wilkinson County defeated Warren County in its semifinal match to advance to the title game, respectively.
