Girls Hoops Wins Region Tournament Opener Against Lincoln County

SPARTA, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School girls basketball team (13-11) advanced to the semifinals of the GHSA Region 7A tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 12, defeating Lincoln County 55-45 at Hancock Central.

The Lady Vikings, seeded at no. 3 out of the west division, used a 36 point second half to defeat the Red Devils, who was the no. 2 seed from the east.

FPD was led in scoring by the 16 points of junior guard Savannah Phillips. Senior guard Hannah Davis chipped in with 14 points, including four 3-pointers to set the Lady Viking single-season record of 3-pointers made with 58.

Junior center Lizzie Lisenby aided the Lady Vikings in the win, coming up with key shots and crucial rebounds in the second half. Lisenby scored 12 points and brought in 15 rebounds on the night. Ten of Lisenby’s 12 points came in the second half.

FPD trailed at halftime 21-19, but outscored Lincoln County 36-24 in the second half. FPD’s defense held the Red Devils to just nine points in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, FPD advances to the semifinals of the region tournament on Friday, Feb. 15 at Hancock Central.

FPD will face the no. 1 seed from the west division, Hancock Central, who defeated Glascock County, the no. 4 seed from the east, 54-31. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
