Weekend Sports Recaps: Baseball, Girls Soccer, Boys Golf and Track

First Presbyterian Day School had multiple spring sports teams in action over the weekend, March 15-16, in various cities. Below are the recaps of each sport competing.


BASEBALL (10-0, 4-0 Reg. 7A): Head coach Jim Turner and his Vikings traveled to Lincolnton to take on Lincoln County High School in a scheduled doubleheader.

FPD pushed its winning streak to 10 in a row with a sweep of the Red Devils. The Vikings took game one of twin-bill 11-10 in eight innings.

FPD was down 5-3 heading into the sixth inning, but a six-run-sixth and a run in the seventh gave the Vikings a momentary lead. Lincoln County struck for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra.

The Vikings scrapped together for one run in the eighth inning to seal the win.

Josh Weaver recorded the win for FPD. Sam Joyce was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Weaver drove in two runs.

In game two, FPD won 2-0 to secure the sweep and stay unbeaten. Kevin Moreau was spectacular on the hill for the Vikings, tossing the complete-game shutout. Moreau scattered five hits while striking out 11 and walking two.

Will McCormick and Joyce recorded an RBI each for the Vikings, respectively.

Baseball returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 19, welcoming Georgia Military College Prep for a region game at 5:00 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.


GIRLS SOCCER (7-1-1): The Lady Vikings took the road to Fort Mill, SC for a two-day tournament, taking on Fort Mill High School and Charlotte Catholic.

In the match against Fort Mill, the Lady Vikings battled to 1-1 tie. Atalia Ramirez scored the game-tying goal in the games final minutes. The game did not go to overtime and the game was deemed a draw.

In Saturday’s contest again Charlotte Catholic, the Lady Vikings fell 1-0, dropping its first game of the 2013 campaign.

The boys and girls soccer teams hit the field again on Tuesday, March 19, taking on region opponent Pacelli at home at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.


BOYS GOLF: The FPD boys golf team hit the links on Saturday, March 19, competing in the Lafayette High Invitational at the Lafayette Municipal Golf Course.

The Vikings fired a team score of 323, which was good for a first place finish.

Senior Conner Albright paced the Vikings, coming into the clubhouse with a team-best 79.

Sophomore Dalton Taylor finished with an 80, freshman Charles Stroud shot an 81 and seniors Brooks Stroud and Kaleb Fuller concluded their respective rounds with an 83.

The boys golf team returns to the course on Thursday, March 21, taking on Mary Persons at the Forsyth City Country Club at 3:30 p.m.


TRACK & FIELD: The FPD girls and boys track and field teams traveled to Atlanta on March 15-16 for the Georgia Tech Coaches Invitational at Griffin Stadium.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings had multiple individuals place in many events.

The track team returns for competition on Thursday, March 21 hosting a meet at George S. Johnson Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
