Baseball Drops Game to Veterans at Turner Field

ATLANTA – The First Presbyterian Day School baseball team hit the road to Turner Field on Saturday, April 13, taking on Veterans High School as part of “High School Day at the Braves.”

Despite falling 4-2, the players, coaches and fans, gained an experience of a lifetime playing and watching the game at a venue that has donned some of the games greatest players.

The loss for FPD snaps a 17-game winning streak, a new school record for consecutive wins to start a season.

The Vikings trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first, but a Sam Pope triple and a base hit later in the inning gave FPD a 2-1 lead.

Veterans would bounce back, scoring three runs in the fourth, enough to seal the victory.

Kevin Moreau took the loss for FPD on the mound. The southpaw allowed one earned run over five innings, walked two and struck out three.

The Vikings outhit Veterans 3-2 on the day, but three costly errors that lead to three unearned runs for Veterans proved to be the difference in the contest.

FPD returns to the diamond on Thursday, April 18, traveling to Georgia Military College Prep for a region game at 5:00 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
