Region Champions! Baseball Throws No-Hitter at GMC to Claim First GHSA Baseball Region Title in School History

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School baseball team claimed its first GHSA region championship in school history, no-hitting the GMC Bulldogs 15-0 on Thursday night, April 18 in six innings.

FPD pitchers Josh Weaver (6-0) and Sam Jones combined to throw a no-hitter, striking out nine batters over six innings of work.

The Vikings scored all 15 runs in the final three frames, including nine runs in the sixth, to earn the win and secure an automatic spot in the 2013 GHSA State Playoffs.

Sam Pope, Hunter Hotchkiss, Tanner Johnston and Neal Tolbert all doubled in the contest and combined to drive 10 runs.

FPD’s region title is the first since 2003 and the seventh in school history.

The victory also snaps a short one-game skid for the Vikings.

FPD returns to the diamond on Friday, April 26, taking on region opponent Aquinas at Ben Harden Memorial Field. First-pitch is set for 5 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
