Girls Soccer Wins over Athens Academy to Advance to Third Round of GHSA State Playoffs

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School girls soccer team scored four goals in the first period, two coming within in the final two minutes, en route to a 7-2 victory over the Athens Academy Lady Spartans in the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs on Tuesday night, May 7.

FPD (16-1-2) advances to play at Calvary Day on Friday, May 10 in the third round.

Jane Howell and Katey Griggs both scored in the waning minutes of the first half to seal the win for FPD, who outshot the Spartans 26-3 on the night.

The offensive star on the night for the Lady Vikings, though, was Atalia Ramirez. The senior struck for two goals and four assists to lead FPD’s scoring attack.

The Lady Vikings added three goals in the second period to pad the lead. Katey Griggs netted the first goal of the second half at the 37:08 mark.

Just over 10 minutes laster, Sara Robertson found the back of the net on a pass from Ramirez for give FPD a 6-2 advantage.

Ramirez fittingly capped off the offensive outbreak for the Lady Vikings, scoring the games final goal at 24:27 to push FPD’s lead to 7-2.

Game time for the Calvary Day match on May 10 is set for 7 p.m.
