Eight Baseball Players Named All-Middle Georgia

MACON, Ga. – After a season that saw the First Presbyterian Day School baseball team advance to the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs and a new school record for consecutive wins to start a season, eight players have been named to The Macon Telegraph All-Middle Georgia team.

“This certainly speaks well of the talent pool at FPD,” head baseball coach Jim Turner said. “We are excited about the (eight) players chosen to be on the team.”

Senior shortstop Sam Joyce and sophomore pitcher Kevin Moreau were named to the first team. Joyce anchored the left side of the infield during his senior season, hitting .418 with 24 RBI and scoring 30 runs.

The southpaw Moreau was also impressive, tossing his way to a 5-2 record with a 1.70 ERA. Moreau also recorded 61 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work.

Seniors Sam Pope and Tanner Johnston and sophomore Sam Jones were named to the All-Middle Georgia second-team, while seniors Scott McCormick, Hunter Hotchkiss, and Joshua Weaver picked up an honorable mention nod, respectively.

FPD finished the 2013 campaign 23-3 before falling to The Darlington School in round two of the state playoffs.
