Volleyball Takes Second Place at Southside Classic Benefit Tournament

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. – After just one year of varsity competition, the First Presbyterian Day School volleyball team knows what it takes to make it to the GHSA State Tournament: hard work and determination.

That same mentality was present on Saturday, August 17, as the Lady Vikings (4-4-3) took second place in the Silver Bracket, falling to Mt. Zion in the championship match at the Southside Classic Benefit Tournament at Locust Grove High School.

FPD started off the day with a loss to the host Locust Grove, but rebounded nicely for a victory over Jackson High School 25-17, 25-23.

After a loss to Dutchtown in the following contest, FPD responded with two clutch victories over Upson-Lee and Shaw to get into the championship match.

In the title game, the Lady Vikings nearly just missed out finishing in first place, dropping the best 2-of-3 match 25-20/24-26/10-15.

FPD returns to the court on Thursday, August 22, traveling to Warner Robins for a match against West Laurens at 6 p.m., followed by a match against host Northside at 7 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory as a member of the Georgia High School Association.
