Softball Falls Late to GMC

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School softball team dropped its region game to the GMC Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night 5-1 in seven innings.

A back-and-forth pitching duel for the majority of the contest, both teams were scoreless until the fifth inning when Emily Rutledge singled home Lizzie Reed to give the Lady Vikings a 1-0 lead.

The advantage was short-lived, however, as GMC scored five runs in the sixth to take the lead for good when Sutton Long sent a fly ball to right-center that scooted past the FPD outfielders, allowing Long and two other Lady Bulldogs to score.

FPD pitcher Carli Sutton had eight strikeouts in the circle for FPD while GMC pitcher Dixie Raley fanned 14.

The Lady Vikings (14-6, 3-2 Reg. 7A) return to the diamond on Thursday, Sept. 26, traveling to Twiggs County for a region game at 5 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory as a member of the Georgia High School Association.
