Volleyball Splits Home Matches vs. Americus-Sumter & Mary Persons

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School volleyball team split its home matches on Thursday night, winning against Americus Sumter 2-0 (25-21, 25-3) and dropping the nightcap to Mary Persons 2-1 (16-25, 25-8, 24-26).

With both matches a best two-of-three format, the Lady Vikings wasted no time taking care of Americus-Sumter.

FPD was led by the four aces of Abigail Pierce and the eight kills from Lizzie Lisenby to seal the Viking win. Olivia Taylor notched 26 sets while Alisha Napier’s 10 digs highlighted the win for the Lady Vikings.

FPD’s match against Mary Persons would take three games before a winner was determined.

The Lady Vikings dropped game one 25-16, but rebounded nicely for a 25-8 win in the second game to force a decisive game three.

A back-and-forth battle in the third game saw 13 lead changes and a late Lady Viking lead, but Mary Persons rallied to take the win by two, 26-24.

FPD was led by the 31 digs of Mikayla Mobley and the 58 sets from Taylor in the match against Mary Persons. Lisenby tallied seven kills while Anna Smith and Napier had three aces, respectively.

Despite the loss to Mary Persons, FPD has won five of its last six matches.

The Lady Vikings return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for “Senior Night 2013,” welcoming Northside at 5 p.m. and Lamar County at 7 p.m.
