Football Wins Over Warren County on Senior Night

MACON, Ga. – The FPD football team (6-3, 5-1 Reg. 7A) pushed its winning streak to five games, defeating the Warren County Screaming Devils 42-24 on Senior Night on Friday night, Nov. 1, at George S. Johnson Stadium.

“In the end things turned out really well,” head coach Greg Moore said. “I’m proud of our seniors and it was also great to see a lot of the guys get in there to contribute in the win.”

Reggie Gantt rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings enter the week’s final season in prime position with a chance to make the state playoffs.

Trailing 6-0 after an early turnover, FPD rattled off 28 unanswered points to take the win.

With 6:50 to play in the first quarter, Gantt marched in a score from 16 yards and Brad Powell nailed the point-after to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead.

Just two minutes later, Jam Morris added a 56-yard touchdown run to pad FPD’s lead at 14-6.

Gantt struck again in the second quarter on a 15-yard run and quarterback Austin Cox hooked up with O’Showen Williams from 74-yards out to give the Vikings a 28-6 advantage.

With 1:06 to play in the first half, Kam Hunter intercepted Jermaine Berry’s pass and returned it for a pick-six from 40-yards to give FPD a commanding 35-6 lead at halftime.

Ryan Lindsey added a touchdown in the third quarter to round out FPD’s scoring outburst, a 17-yard score.

“This was a great night for our football team,” Moore said. “It sets up a big week for us next week (at Aquinas).”

Moore says despite starting the season at 0-2, FPD’s response since then has been sparked by the senior class.

“Our seniors kept believing and our locker room kept believing because our seniors believed,” Moore said. “We just can’t say enough about them.”

Cox threw for 92 yards and Williams led the team in receiving with 74 yards.

FPD out-gained Warren County in total yards 284-244 on the night.

Kickoff next week at Aquinas is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Augusta.
