Softball Falls Short of State Title Berth

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The FPD softball team (23-10) fell to Prince Avenue 1-0 on Saturday afternoon ending its season and a chance at a berth in the GHSA Class-A State Championship.

Pitcher Carli Sutton was unable to get any run support, despite striking out seven batters.

Emily Soles recorded the win for Prince Avenue, tossing seven innings of shutout ball. Soles struck out seven, walked none and gave up one hit.

Prince Avenue’s lone run of the ballgame came in the seventh inning on an error.

FPD was able to advance earlier in the day after defeating Savannah Christian 5-3.

Maggie Renfroe brought home the winning run to give FPD the lead in the sixth inning.

Renfroe went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, garnering two extra-base hits.

Sutton tallied 11 strikeouts, allowing three earned runs, six hits and two walks over seven innings of work.

Brooke Eichenlaub was the game’s losing pitcher, lasting just 1.3 innings, walking two, striking out none, and allowing five runs.

The Lady Vikings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first when a double by Courtney Lawrence scored Renfroe and Caitlin Collins. FPD added more runs later in the game when Lawrence scored on an RBI double by Jill Rogers.

The season was a memorable one for FPD. The Lady Vikings advanced to the GHSA Class-A Elite Eight and Final Four for the first time in school history.
