Softball Lands Ten on All-Region Team

MACON, Ga. – The FPD softball team and head coach Jim Turner is pleased to announce that six Lady Vikings have been named to the GHSA Class-A All-Region 7 team.

Senior Caitlin Collins, juniors Courtney Lawrence and Sumner Carlton, sophomore Jill Rogers and freshman Carli Sutton and Maggie Renfroe picked up  All-Region honors.

Collins, one of two seniors on the roster, hit .310 over the course of the season with 24 runs scored and 18 RBI’s.

Lawrence played a pivotal role in FPD’s opening series playoff win against Athens Christian, and led the team with a .402 batting average while Carlton finished tied for second in hits (27).

Rogers led the Lady Vikings on the year with 36 hits and finished second on the team in batting average (.383).

Sutton, FPD’s no. 1 starting pitcher in 2013, impressed many with her control and mental toughness en route to a 20-8 record in the circle.

Renfroe was equally impressive with her aggressive approach at the dish, finishing fifth on the team in OPS (.904) and first in triples with five.

Senior Mary Micah Lee, junior Ashleigh Powers, sophomore Lizzie Reed and freshman Emily Rutledge were named honorable mention, respectively.

The season was a memorable one for the Lady Vikings. FPD (23-10) advanced to the GHSA Class-A Elite Eight for the first time in school history and finished third overall in the state.
