Eight Softball Players Tabbed as All-Middle Georgia

MACON, Ga. – The Macon Telegraph released its 2013 All-Middle Georgia Softball Team on Friday, Dec. 27 with a whopping eight Lady Vikings selected to the squad.

First-team members included junior Courtney Lawrence and freshman pitcher Carli Sutton.

Lawrence powered the Lady Vikings at the plate throughout the 2013 playoffs, including belting a key home run in FPD’s first round state playoff series win over Athens Christian. The righty hit .409 on the year and drove in 29 runs, respectively.

Sutton was a force in the circle for FPD in her first season of varsity action. The right-handed hurler compiled a 20-8 record and posted a 1.15 ERA. She also struck out 127 batters, good for a mark of just under five whiffs per game.

Making the All-Middle Georgia Second-Team was junior outfielder Sumner Carlton. A consistent left-handed bat at the dish, Carlton hit .342 in 31 games played in 2013. She also scored 26 runs and had an on-base percentage of .435.

Joining the aforementioned Lady Vikings as honorable mention nods are seniors Caitlin Collins and Mary Micah Lee, sophomore Lizzie Reed and freshmen Maggie Renfroe and Emily Rutledge.

The Lady Vikings (23-10) are fresh off one of the best seasons in school history, taking third place at the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament in Columbus.
