GHSA Releases Region 7-A All-Region Football Team

THOMASTON, Ga. – The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) released its Region 7-A All-Region Football team on Tuesday, Dec. 17, with 10 Vikings making the squad, highlighted by Will Black’s Defensive Player of the Year selection.

“Certainly we are proud of the number of kids that have been acknowledged by the other coaches in the region,” head coach Greg Moore said. “It says a lot about what kind of season each of these young men had in filling important roles on our football team.”

The Vikings placed six members on the All-Region Offensive Team, coupled with four players on the defensive side.

Black paced FPD on defense throughout the year, starting and playing in all 11 games.

The senior totaled 157 tackles, 79 of which were on the solo end. Black also caused three fumbles, recovered a fumble and corralled two interceptions on the year.

FPD placed a trio of sophomores on the All-Region Offensive Team with quarterback Will McCormick (1,154 yards passing and nine touchdowns), running back Reggie Gantt (100 carries, 484 yards, five touchdowns) and wide receiver O’Showen Williams.

Senior Martin Wilson and junior Palmer Haynes were also honored for their work protecting the offensive line for the Vikings, while junior back Jam Morris also received a nod.

Along with Black, the Vikings notched three others on the All-Region Defensive Team.

Senior defensive back Ryan Lindsey and senior defensive linemen Caleb Samuel and Brandon Cox were named to the team, respectively.

“Football is a team sport,” Moore said. “All of our team celebrates awards like this – we’re excited for our team’s progress and for those that have been honored.”

FPD finished 6-5 overall and 5-2 in region play in 2013 and advanced to the GHSA Class-A State Playoffs for a third consecutive season.
