Girls Basketball Falls at Landmark in Season Opener

FAIRBURN, Ga. – The FPD girls basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener to the Landmark Christian War Eagles 43-40.

The Lady Vikings were led in scoring and rebounding by freshman Kate Patterson, who posted her first career double-double with a game-high 13 points and 21 rebounds.

FPD trailed by six at the end of the first quarter 13-7 but rallied to outscore the Lady Eagles by five (16-11) to trail by just one, 24-23 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Vikings and Lady War Eagles traded buckets back and forth on the offensive end, but Landmark held on for the win 43-40 as time expired.

Senior Savannah Phillips netted 12 points in the loss for FPD while fellow senior Caroline Stroud connected for six points.

Landmark (3-3) was led by the 12 points of Joy Stucker, respectively.

Landmark out-dueled FPD behind the arc, draining five three-pointers to FPD’s two.

The Lady Vikings will look for their first win of the season on Friday, Dec. 6, traveling to play the Brookstone Lady Cougars in Columbus. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
