Girls Basketball Picks Up Two Wins

Staff Reports

The FPD girls basketball team (3-2) picked up two wins over the weekend, defeating Harris County 60-45 on the road Friday night, Dec. 13, followed up by a victory over Thomson High School 32-18 on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the GMC Shootout in Milledgeville.

Saturday’s contest saw the Lady Vikings trail the Lady Bulldogs 10-8 at the end of the first quarter.

But FPD’s defense woke up in the middle of the game, holding Thomson to five points, including just one point in the third quarter, to earn the victory.

Senior Savannah Phillips led the offensive charge for the Lady Vikings, who picked up their third consecutive win after dropping the season’s first two games.

Friday’s game at Harris County saw the Lady Vikings pull away with a big second quarter,  outscoring the Lady Tigers 16-8 and 17-5 in the third frame.

Freshman Kate Patterson set a career-high with 24 points with 10 rebounds while Phillips dropped in 19. Senior Lizzie Lisenby nearly recorded a double-double, scoring eight and corralling 10 caroms, respectively.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Friday, Dec. 20, traveling to play Pacelli in Columbus at the Pacelli Christmas Tournament.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
