Softball Lands Two on GACA All-State Team

MACON, Ga. – The FPD softball team and head coach Jim Turner is pleased to announce that two Lady Vikings, freshman Carli Sutton and junior Courtney Lawrence, have been selected to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-State Second Team for Class-A.

“It’s a great honor,” Turner said. “Both of these players poured lots of energy into our program and were a big part of our success along with everyone else on the team.”

Sutton dazzled hitters all season long in the circle for the Lady Vikings.

The righty compiled a 20-8 record with an impressive 1.15 ERA. Sutton limited batters all year, striking out 127 while walking just 36.

Sutton was also a threat at the dish throughout her inaugural campaign, hitting .368, slugging .474 with an on-base percentage of .368. Altogether, Sutton’s OPS (on-base percentage and slugging percentage) was a solid .842.

“Carli was great all year,” Turner said. “She allowed no earned runs in three of our five elite eight games.”

Lawrence primarily played as the designated player (DP) throughout out the course of the season and caught fire in FPD’s Final Four state playoff run.

The righty hit .478 during the state playoffs, going 11-of-23 with eight RBI’s.

For the season, Lawrence’s average was .402 with a .476 OBP and an overall OPS of 1.062.

“Courtney led us in several offensive categories,” Turner said. “She always seemed to get the big hit in the close games.”

The Lady Vikings finished the year at 23-10 and advanced to the GHSA Class-A Elite Eight for the first time in school history and placed third overall in the state.
