Boys Basketball Downed by Putnam County

MACON, Ga. – Senior guard T.J. Sams scored a game-high 29 points and freshman Torrian McSwain poured in 13 points off the bench, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Putnam County Eagles as the FPD Vikings (1-14) fell 65-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Eagles, led by the 18 points of Cameron Davis. Dontavious Waller dropped in 16, and Tonquavious Horton, Quintavious Waller and Nick Banks notched 10 in the win for the Eagles.

The Vikings trailed for the duration of the contest, but made things interesting in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 43-35 going into the final frame, the Vikings cut the Eagle lead to two points at 53-51 but Putnam County ended the game on a 12-7 run to secure the win.

The Eagles capitalized on their free throw attempts, hitting 18-of-23 from the charity stripe.

The Vikings held the advantage from behind the arc, nailing 10 three-pointers to Putnam’s three, with Sams (7) and McSwain (3) accounting for all makes.

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday night, Jan. 21, welcoming the Hancock Central Bulldogs to FPD for a region-7 contest.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
