Boys Swimming First, Girls Fourth at One Last Splash

MACON, Ga. – The FPD swim teams took to the water on Friday night, January 24, hosting the “One Last Splash” at the Northside Pool with the boys squad finishing first overall and the girls taking fourth place.

In the boys meet, the Vikings scored 392 points, edging out second place finisher Houston County by 20 points (372 total).

Senior Gerald Johnson, who qualified for the GHSA State Meet earlier this season, won the boys 200-yard freestyle and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle.

FPD’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson, Connor Bridges, Ben Monfort and Ru Yi Marone finished second at 1:44.51 as well.

The Vikings placed two in the top-five in the 100-yard backstroke event with Jake Peavy winning the race with a time of 1:28.02 and Adam Young taking fifth at 2:00.25.

The girls meet saw FPD take fourth out of the seven schools with 245 points. Warner Robins High School finished first with 515 points, respectively.

Brenley Martinez took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:18.22 while also finishing in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:04.11.

FPD’s girls 200-yard freestyle relay team finished fifth of the 13 teams as Mary Helen Douglas, Elizabeth Smith, Emily Golding and Martinez finished at 2:15.82.

The meet brings an end to the 2013-14 season for the FPD swim teams.

Johnson will now compete at the GHSA State Swim Meet on Feb. 7-8.
