FPD Invite Recap; Johnson Qualifies for State

MACON, Ga. – The FPD boys and girls swim teams were in action on Friday night, Jan. 10, hosting a meet at the Northside Pool with the Vikings taking first place and the Lady Vikings finishing second overall.

In the boys meet, the Vikings racked up 569 total points for a commanding win over Providence, Lamar County and Howard. The nearest competitor was the 198 points of Providence, respectively.

Highlighting the individual results for the boys was FPD’s Gerald Johnson, who took first overall in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.89 to qualify for the GHSA State Meet in February.

Johnson has now qualified two consecutive years for state competition.

FPD’s 200-yard medley-relay team of Connor Bridges, James Collins, Johnson and Ru Yi Marone took first in the event while Paul Young finished first in the 200-yard freestyle.

In the girls meet, the Lady Vikings posted 354 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop a high-powered Providence squad, who accounted for 562 points.

Brenley Martinez paced the Lady Vikings in the 100-yard freestyle while Madison McMickle finished third and Alisha Napier took fourth.
