Girls Basketball Wins One, Drops One Over Weekend

The FPD girls basketball team (6-5) won its game on Friday night, Jan. 10 at Houston County High School 53-41 before dropping its Saturday afternoon contest at Perry 55-45.

In Friday’s game at HoCo., the Lady Vikings jumped out to an early 13-6 lead after the first quarter.

The Lady Bears struck back in the second quarter, however, outscoring the Lady Vikings 17-16, giving FPD a 29-23 lead at halftime.

Both teams came out in the second half struggling on the offensive end. The Lady Vikings scored just six points in the third quarter while the Lady Bears could muster just seven.

The fourth quarter saw FPD maintain its lead en route to the win, out-dueling the Lady Bears 18-16.

Freshman Kate Patterson paced FPD in scoring, dropping in 20 points while senior Savannah Phillips netted 17, respectively.

Houston County was led by Kiera Nicely’s game-high 26 points.

The Lady Vikings held the advantage behind the arc as well, knocking down five 3-pointers to the Lady Bears’ 4.

FPD returns to region play on Wednesday, Jan. 15, traveling to play the Wilkinson County Lady Warriors at 6 p.m.
