Softball’s Caitlin Collins Signs with GMC

MACON, Ga. – FPD senior softball player Caitlin Collins signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Georgia Military College in the fall of 2014 on Thursday morning, January 16, in the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

Collins is the second Lady Viking to sign with GMC during the past year as Claire Crawford (class of 2013) signed with the Lady Bulldogs last winter.

“Caitlin has been an integral part of our softball program these last four years,” head coach Jim Turner said. “Her leadership throughout this past season was crucial to our success.”

Collins, a four-year letter-winner and a four-time All-Region selection, saw a consistent year at the plate in 2013, hitting .310 with 24 runs scored and 18 RBI’s. The righty also accounted for 27 hits, tied for third on the squad.

For her career, Collins’ .350 batting average will place her in the top-10 at FPD, respectively.

“She leaves a legacy of compassion, concern for teammates, a passion for the sport and a Christ-like attitude as a challenge to future softball teams at FPD,” Turner said.

FPD’s deep run in the 2013 GHSA Class-A State Playoffs in Columbus delivered one of Collins’ best moments, a crucial RBI in Olympic Stadium on Nov. 1 that propelled FPD to the Final Four and a 5-3 win over Savannah Christian.

During her time at FPD, the Lady Vikings have won three region titles and have advanced to the GHSA State Playoffs four straight years. Combined in all four years, Collins has been a part of an astounding 81 Lady Viking victories on the diamond.

“It’s going to be tough to find a player to replace what she has given to FPD,” Turner said. “We wish her the best.”

The Lady Vikings finished the 2013 campaign at 23-10, advancing to the GHSA Class-A Final Four for the first time in school history.
