Girls Soccer Bests Jones County, Boys Draw

MACON, Ga. – The FPD girls and boys soccer teams were in action on Thursday night, February 27, hosting the Jones County Greyhounds, with the Lady Vikings (2-0) earning an 8-0 win and the boys (3-0-1) fighting to a 1-1 draw.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings used an offensive outburst from Amy Morgan, who netted five goals in the win. Maggie Johnston scored two goals and Jane Howell one, respectively.

FPD racked up plenty of assists in the victory as well, with Howell, Emma Lako and Katey Griggs each earning two dimes. Brooke Wylie and Ali Sawyer also recorded an assist each.

The Lady Vikings outshot Jones County 31-1 and Megan Sparks picked up one save in goal.

In the boys game, the Vikings led 1-0 midway through the second half after a goal from Bradley Mullis on an assist from Kevin Griggs.

The Greyhounds would fight back, though, tying the game on a goal by Wade Carr, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Both squads had nine shots on the night. FPD keeper Matthew Feagin recorded nine saves while Greyhound goalie Corey Dixon also picked up nine.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Saturday, March 1, in their first game of the Viking Cup, hosting Howard at 7:30 p.m.

The Vikings travel to Strong Rock on Tuesday, March 4, for a match at 6:30 p.m.
