Baseball Knocks Off Rutland in Shootout

MACON, Ga. – The FPD baseball team (9-5) scored 10 unanswered runs on Thursday night, March 27, coming from behind and defeating the Rutland Hurricanes 14-11 in non-region play.

The win for the Vikings pushes its winning streak to four, the second-longest of the 2014 season.

FPD scored six runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Viking offense was sparked by K.J. Spears, who was a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish with three RBI’s.

Tyler Stubbs led FPD with four RBI’s in the contest. FPD outhit Rutland 15-5 despite committing six errors.

Spears picked up the win for the Vikings on the hill, tossing three innings of shutout ball.

FPD used a total of five pitchers in the game, but only one of the 11 runs allowed was earned.

The Vikings will return to the diamond on Friday, March 28, traveling to Twiggs County for a region game at 4:30 p.m. FPD’s next home game is Monday, April 7 against Westside at 5:55 p.m.
