Baseball Tosses Another No-No, Best Wilco 12-0

MACON, Ga. – Throwing a no-hitter will change the attitude of a ball club.

Tossing back-to-back no hitters and three in one season could change the entire outlook.

So far, that’s what the FPD baseball team (4-4, 2-0 Reg. 7) has done, pitching consecutive no-hitters, the most recent in a 12-0 victory over the Wilkinson County Warriors on Friday night, March 7 at Ben Harden Field.

“Our pitchers have been able to attack the strike zone,” head coach Jim Turner said, who is in his last year at the helm of the FPD baseball program.

FPD’s third no-hitter this season was a combined effort. Austin Cox (2-1) picked up the win, with relief work coming via Sam Jones, Kevin Moreau and K.J. Spears.

All four hurlers combined for 11 strikeouts as the Vikings won their fourth straight contest.

But the pitching wasn’t the only story.

FPD’s offense showed up too, all 12 runs in the first three innings of action, highlighted by the four RBI’s from Tyler Stubbs. He homered in the first inning to give the Vikings a lead they would never relinquish.

“Our hitters are doing a good job scoring runners in key situations,” Turner said. “We are excited about that.”

Turner also says the team attitude to get back to .500 has been fun to watch.

“We were at 0-4 to start the season, but we have started clicking and hope it will continue,” Turner said.

The Vikings will put their winning streak on the line on Tuesday night when they travel to Glascock County for a region-7 matchup.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. in Gibson.
