Girls Soccer Claims 2014 Viking Cup Over Veterans

MACON, Ga. – The FPD girls soccer team (5-0) scored on an own goal with one second remaining in the first overtime and held on in the second overtime period, defeating the Veterans Lady Warhawks 2-1 to claim the 2014 Viking Cup Championship on Saturday night, March 8.

The win for the Lady Vikings brought a second consecutive trophy to the soccer programs, as the boys soccer team took their Viking Cup just over a week ago.

Amy Morgan was credited with FPD’s first score of the night off an assist from Sara Robertson.

Sara Lucas scored for Veterans, who outshot FPD 10-9 on the night.

FPD keeper Megan Sparks saw a busy night in goal, tallying eight saves while Veterans goalie Erin Harbison racked up seven caroms in the net.

With the win, the Lady Vikings have won five straight matches, outscoring opponents 26-1 during that span.

FPD returns to play on Tuesday, March 11, welcoming the Putnam County Lady Eagles to campus for a match at 5:30 p.m.
