Soccer Splits with Pike County Pirates, Brookstone Next

ZEBULON, Ga. – The FPD girls and boys soccer teams were in action on Thursday night, April 11, traveling to Pike County with the girls claiming a 2-0 victory while the boys dropped a 3-1 decision.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings (14-0) kept their unbeaten streak alive.

Katey Griggs and Jane Howell provided plenty of offense, both notching a goal in the win. Howell was also credited with an assist.

Megan Sparks picked up one save in the net for FPD while Haley Caraway scooped up nine. The Lady Vikings outshot the Lady Pirates 12-1.

In the boys match, the Vikings (10-3-1) saw its two game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss.

Cole Morton provided the Viking offense with its only goal with the assist coming from Christian Moore.

Eric Sturm powered in two scores for the Pirates and Chris Beeland picked up a goal for Pike..

Both squads were even in shots at 7-7. FPD keeper Matthew Feagin corralled four saves.

The soccer squads will have the weekend off before traveling to Columbus for matches at Brookstone on Thursday, April 17 for the region championship.

The girls will kick things off at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Vikings defeated Brookstone last season 4-1 to claim the region title. The Vikings also took its region championship match against the Cougars, winning 4-2 on penalty kicks at the FPD Soccer Complex.
