Boys Golf Takes Fifth at GHSA State Match

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The FPD boys golf team took to the links on Monday, May 19 at Forest Hills Golf Club at the GHSA Class-A Private State Championship.

The Vikings posted a fifth place finish overall, firing a team score of 316.

“Im proud of the way the guys competed,” head coach Matt Kitchell said. “We obviously wanted to win, but we kept persevering throughout the match.”

Sophomore Charles Stroud led FPD in scoring, signing his card with a 73 (+1) while junior Brantley Wilson notched a 79 (+8).

“We had some guys that really came out and performed today,” Kitchell said. “I thought overall our game plan was a good.”

Senior Dalton Taylor, who signed a golf scholarship earlier this season with ABAC, carded a 90 and freshman Wesley Hanson finished with an 84 to round out the Viking score.

“It’s been a good year for our golf team,” Kitchell said. “I know the future for FPD Golf is strong.”
