Softball’s Lawrence Named GDC Elite 80

MACON, Ga. – The FPD softball team and head coach Jim Turner is pleased to announce that senior catcher Courtney Lawrence has been named to the Georgia Dugout Club Elite 80 team.

The squad represents the top 80 players in the GHSA from around the state.

“We are proud of Courtney and all she continues to do,” Turner said. “She keeps getting better and as a result our team gets better.”

Lawrence is scheduled to play at Twin Cities Park in Atlanta on July 18.

In 2013, Lawrence had a breakout season at the dish, hitting .402 with 29 RBI’s and totaling 35 hits.

Throughout FPD’s postseason run, Lawrence annihilated opposing pitchers with a .478 average and drove in eight runs in eight games.

“We know she will represent our school well not only at the Georgia Dugout Club event but also throughout her senior season,” Turner said.

The Lady Vikings finished the 2013 campaign at 23-10 and advanced to the GHSA Class-A Final Four for he first time in school history.

First pitch for the 2014 season is set for Saturday, August 9 at Mercer University’s Sikes Field with a doubleheader against Rutland and Perry High School beginning at 10 a.m.
