Volleyball Drops Opener to Perry and Northside

MACON, Ga. – The FPD volleyball team (0-2) dropped its season opener to the Perry Lady Panthers and Northside Lady Eagles on Thursday night at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

“I thought we played well and didn’t give up,” head coach Sarah Futo said. “A lot of our passes were spot on and the hustle was there. The scores just weren’t in our favor in the end.”

The Lady Vikings took on Perry in the first match of the evening, eventually falling in three games (25-21, 23-25, 11-25) despite winning the first.

Mackenzie Johnson paced FPD with nine kills while Kate Patterson racked up seven blocks.

“Our front row play was really good tonight in both matches,” Futo said. “It’s a long season. We know where we stand and what we need to work on.”

In FPD’s match against Northside, the Lady Vikings dropped the first two games 8-25 and 21-25.

Abigail Pierce led the Lady Vikings with three kills. Alisha Napier and Pierce each dropped in two aces as well.

“Our energy was great at the start tonight against Perry,” Futo said. “We just have to keep that same focus and energy throughout the entire match moving forward.”

The Lady Vikings hit the court again on Saturday, August 16, traveling to the Southside Classic in Locust Grove for an all-day tournament. Check and FPD’s sports twitter feed throughout the weekend for updates.
