Football’s Powell Picks up Macon TD Club Award

MACON, Ga. – Junior kicker Brad Powell has been selected as the Macon Touchdown Club’s “Special Teams Player of the Week,” after last week’s performance at GMC Prep on Sept. 19 in Milledgeville, resulting in a 62-21 win for the Vikings.

The right-footed Powell successfully converted 8-of-8 extra points and four of his kickoffs sailed into the end zone to force touchbacks.

Head coach Greg Moore said Powell has been benefiting the team in a positive way.

“We are happy for Brad and for his award,” Moore said. “He keeps getting better each day at practice and that’s showing in the games. He’s a valuable part to our team.”

Powell was honored at the Club’s weekly meeting at the Methodist Children Home on Pierce Avenue in Macon. The night also featured Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech head football coach, as the keynote speaker.

Powell is 13-for-10 on the season thus far in PAT’s. He and the Vikings (3-0) will look to pad that stat on Friday, Sept. 26, traveling to Lincoln County.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Buddy Bufford Field in Lincolnton.
