Late Hit, Solid Pitching Pushes Softball Past Rutland 2-0

MACON, Ga. – Allie Parkerson continued her hot hitting and Peyton Worsham tossed a complete game shutout as the FPD softball team (11-5) defeated the Rutland Lady Hurricanes 2-0 on Wednesday night, Sept. 10.

The win pushes FPD’s win streak to eight straight games, their longest of the 2014 season.

Parkerson gave the Lady Vikings the lead for good in the sixth inning. After a Caylee Ann Sutton single and an Emily Rutledge walk, Parkerson sent Miranda Somers’ 3-2 offering the opposite way to right field for the 2-RBI double.

Worsham (4-1) would shut down the Lady Hurricane hitters to preserve the victory. The righty allowed only four hits while racking up nine strikeouts and one walk over seven innings of work.

Sumner Carlton, Maggie Renfroe, Sutton, and Worsham also recorded one hit apiece for the Lady Vikings.

But it was Parkerson’s magic that aided in the win.

In her last six games, the righty is an astounding 10-for-17 (.588 BA) with two home runs, two doubles and nine RBI. She has accounted for nearly one-third of FPD’s offense since the Lady Vikings defeated Stratford on Aug. 28.

She and the Lady Vikings will look for their ninth consecutive victory on Thursday, Sept. 11, returning to Region-7 play at Mt. de Sales. First pitch is scheduled for 5:55 p.m. at Cavalier Fields.

FPD bested the Lady Cavaliers 15-0 in three innings on Aug. 21 at home, the first win of the team’s current winning streak.
