Win Streak at Nine After Softball’s 10-0 Victory at MDS

MACON. Ga. – The hardest part of a winning streak is keeping it going.

But the FPD softball team did just that, shutting out the Mt. de Sales Lady Cavaliers 10-0 in five innings on Thursday night, Sept. 11, at Cavalier Fields behind a stellar pitching performance from Carli Sutton and the help of a high powered offense.

The win sends FPD’s winning streak to nine games, the longest of the 2014 season, and keeps the squad atop the Region-7 standings at a perfect 5-0 record.

Sutton (8-4) surrendered just one hit while striking out five batters and walking one.

FPD’s offense was hot all game, outhitting de Sales 11-1.

Maggie Renfroe finished the night at 3-for-4 with two RBI while Katie Culver was 2-for-2, driving in two runs of her own.

FPD scored a combined nine runs in the second, third and fourth inning to give Sutton all the run support she would need in the complete game effort.

Renfroe plated two runs in the second inning on a single that brought home Sumner Carlton and Culver.

Culver, who recorded her first RBI of the night in the second frame, drove in another run in the third on a sacrifice fly that plated Carlton.

The Lady Vikings (12-5, 5-0 Reg. 7) will look to continue their winning streak this weekend at the Chattanooga Score International Tournament in Tennessee. FPD’s first scheduled games are Friday, Sept. 30, against North Murray High School at 7:30 p.m. followed by a matchup against Murray High School at 9 p.m.
