Softball to Host Strong Rock in First Round of 2014 GHSA State Playoffs (with TIMES)

MACON, Ga. – The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) released the 2014 Class-A Private State Tournament Bracket on Wednesday afternoon, October 15, with the FPD softball team earning the no. 3 seed overall.

The Lady Vikings will host the no. 14 seeded Strong Rock Christian Lady Patriots in the first round on Oct. 22-23 in a best-of-three game series at the FPD Softball Complex. Games one and two will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 22 while game three, if necessary, would be Thursday, Oct. 23.

First pitch for game one on Wednesday is set for a 5 p.m. start while game two will begin at 7 p.m. If necessary, game three would be Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Vikings finished the 2014 season at 21-7 overall and 11-1 in Region 7-A play. FPD picked up its ninth region title in school history on Oct. 9 with a 4-3 victory over Tattnall Square Academy. The region championship earned FPD an automatic bid into the state tournament.

FPD had its best GHSA state playoff finish in 2013, taking third overall in the tournament, falling to eventual state runner-up Prince Avenue 1-0 in Columbus.

The Lady Patriots, who were shutout by the Lady Vikings 4-0 in the 2013 state tourney, finished the 2014 campaign at 13-12 and 5-3 in Region 5-A action.

Both teams are the same seed as their final GHSA Class-A Power Rating after appeals.
