Football Draws Prince Avenue in First Round of GHSA State Playoffs

MACON, Ga. – The GHSA released the official 2014 Class-A State Playoff Brackets on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12, and for the fourth straight year, the FPD football team has qualified for postseason play.

The Vikings, the no. 13 seed, will travel to play the Prince Avenue Wolverines, the no. 4 seed, in Bogart, Ga. on Friday, Nov. 21. Kickoff is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Wolverine Field.

Further playoff information, including a preview of the game, will be available in the coming days.

The Vikings finished the regular season at 7-3 while Prince Avenue claimed the Region 8-A Championship with an 8-2 overall mark. The region title automatically earned Prince a top spot in the playoff seeding process.

According to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association website, the Vikings and Wolverines have never faced each other. Thus, next Friday’s playoff contest will be the first time both schools have squared off.

The Vikings are 1-2 all-time in GHSA State Playoff games. FPD’s only win came in the 2012 season, a 49-33 victory at Brookstone in the first round.
