Boys Hoops Succumbs to South Effingham 56-43 at SCDS Tourney

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The FPD boys basketball team (2-3) dropped its second straight game on Friday night, falling to the South Effingham High School Mustangs (4-7) on the opening day of the Savannah Country Day School Christmas Tournament at Demere Gymnasium.

FPD freshman Champ Dawson netted a game-high 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the balanced scoring attack from the Mustangs. South Effingham, who snapped a three game losing streak, had 10 players score at least two points in the contest.

The Mustangs were led by the 12 points of Marcus Stephens in the win.

The Vikings trailed 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and 34-27 at halftime.

A slow start to the third quarter that saw the Mustangs outscore the Vikings 15-4 proved to be the difference in the game.

The Mustangs drained seven 3-pointers on the night, while the Vikings failed to score from beyond the arc.

Both teams struggled shooting from the charity stripe. FPD finished at 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free throw line and the Mustangs tallied 37.5 percent (3-of-8).

FPD will look to end its current skid on Saturday, Dec. 20, taking on the host school Savannah Country Day at 6:30 p.m.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
