Girls Hoops Drop Second Straight, Fall at Schley 52-34

ELLAVILLE, Ga. – The FPD girls basketball team (1-2) dropped its second consecutive contest on Tuesday night, Dec. 9 in a 52-34 decision to the Schley County Lady Wildcats in non-region play.

FPD sophomore guard Emma Lako lead the squad with 13 points on the night and senior teammate Megan Ingram dropped in 10 points.

“I thought we played well for three quarters,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “We just couldn’t get it done in that last quarter to close the deal.”

Schley’s Trenity Coleman led all scorers with 30 points, including a 12-of-13 performance from the free throw line.

The Lady Vikings hung with the Wildcats early, however, trailing by just one at 11-10 at the end of the first quarter and by four at 25-21 at halftime.

But a third quarter that saw Schley go on a 13-9 run hindered FPD’s chances of a late comeback.

The Wildcats then amped up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter and the Lady Vikings scored just four points in the final quarter of action. Schley, meanwhile, netted 14 points to secure the win.

“Compared to our last game (against George Walton), I’m proud of how much harder the girls played,” Griffin said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but I know that we can get to where we want to be by continuing to work hard and getting better.”

The Lady Vikings return to action on Friday night, Dec. 12, hosting the GMC Prep Lady Bulldogs at 6 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

FPD picked up a pair of wins against the Lady Bulldogs last season, the first a 57-23 victory at home on Jan. 17 and the second a 40-36 win in Milledgeville on Feb. 4.
