GMC Bulldogs Slide Past Girls Basketball in Double OT 52-44

MACON, Ga. – The FPD girls basketball team held the GMC Prep Lady Bulldogs to two points in the fourth quarter to force overtime followed by a game-tying 3-pointer by sophomore Bailey Ruble as time expired in the first extra period to force another overtime.

But in the end, it wasn’t enough as GMC Prep (4-4) hung on for a 52-44 non-region win on Friday night, Dec. 12 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

“I liked how we battled” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “We played much better than in our past games, especially in the second half of play.”

Sophomore Kate Patterson netted a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds despite fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

GMC was led in scoring by the 18 points each of Karlie Harding and Keely Murner.

“We stepped up defensively in that second half,” Griffin said, who saw his team battle back from a 29-21 halftime deficit. The Lady Vikings held the Lady Bulldogs to 11 points in the second half to force overtime.

“We kept coming back to get buckets when we could,” Griffin said.

Part of FPD’s successful run was the play of senior Megan Ingram, who finished with eight points, the majority of those coming in the second half.

But the Lady Vikings still let many chances slip away. FPD finished the night at 4-for-11 on free throws while GMC was 12-for-25.

“We didn’t help ourselves that much in the game,” Griffin said. “We didn’t hit the free throws when we needed to and didn’t take care of the basketball at important times.”

FPD (1-3), who has lost three straight, will prepare for the Savannah Country Day Tournament scheduled for Dec. 19-20. Opponents and game times will be announced in the coming days on
