Hot Fourth Quarter Sends Savannah Country Day Past Boys Hoops 38-35

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah Country Day School Hornets (2-4) scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to earn a come-from-behind 38-35 win over the FPD boys basketball team (2-4) in the final day of the Savannah Country Day Christmas Tournament at Demere Gymnasium.

The Hornets outscored the Vikings 21-11 over the final eight minutes of play to hand FPD its third straight loss.

Matthew McGinty posted a game-high 10 points for the Hornets in the victory. FPD was led in scoring by the nine points of Maurice Gordon.

The Vikings led 8-7 at the end of the third quarter and 18-15 at halftime.

Both squads came out of the locker room and struggled offensively in the third quarter, with FPD owning a 24-17 lead heading in to the final quarter of action.

But the Hornets’ Evan Baird caught fire in that final frame, scoring all of his nine points to lead the comeback.

Both teams spread the wealth offensively throughout the contest. Six different players scored at least two points for both teams in Saturday’s game.

The Hornet’s finished with three 3-pointers while the Vikings failed to drop in a bucket from downtown.

FPD finished 5-for-14 from the free thrown line while the Hornets were 3-for-7.

The Vikings will look to snap its current skid when the new year rolls around on Jan. 2, hosting the Twiggs County Cobras to begin Region-7 play.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.
