Boys Hoops Drops 53-36 Region Contest at Twiggs County

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ga. – FPD’s Jacob Oates netted a game-high 14 points and teammate Champ Dawson chipped in with 12, but it wasn’t enough as the Twiggs County Cobras defeated the Vikings (2-5, 0-1 Reg. 7A) 53-36 at the Twiggs County High School Gymnasium on Friday night to open up region play.

FPD led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cobras rallied in the second quarter to go on a 20-5 run to take a 31-18 halftime lead.

The Cobras netted three players in double-figures, led by the 13 points of Ramontrez Stephens. Juwaun Brown posted 12 points while Tyrik Carswell dropped in 11 points.

Both teams struck from downtown three times. Oates nailed all of FPD’s 3-pointers while Brown buried Twiggs’ long shots from behind the arc.

The Vikings struggled from the free throw line in the contest. FPD was 17-of-29 from the charity stripe.

FPD, who has dropped its past three games, will look to reverse its current slide on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 3, hosting the George Walton Academy Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
