Lady Vikings Drop Road Contest at Brookstone 42-30

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Two FPD players notched double-figure performances, but in the end it wasn’t enough as the Lady Vikings (4-11) fell on the road to the Brookstone Lady Cougars (4-15) 42-30 at Illges Gymnasium in non-region play on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24.

Junior Sydney Reese and sophomore Kate Patterson finished with 10 points each to pace the Lady Vikings, who fell victim for their second straight contest.

“We just couldn’t get the big baskets when we needed them the most,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “Our girls have the right idea, but our turnovers proved costly.”

FPD trailed 16-9 after the first quarter and 27-15 at halftime.

Both squads netted eight points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.

“I thought we had our chances in the second half,” Griffin said. “We amped up the defensive pressure, but we couldn’t answer on offense when we needed points.”

Brookstone’s Naeisha McClain led all players with a game-high 21 points on the day while Katherine Snavely dropped in eight points.

The Lady Cougars capitalized from the foul line as well, turning 21 Lady Viking fouls into 19 points.

FPD will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night, Jan. 27 when hosting the Mt. de Sales Lady Cavaliers in a Region-7A contest at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center at 6 p.m.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Lady Cavs 45-32 at McAuley Hall back on Jan. 9.
