Lady Vikings Push Past Twiggs County in 57-50 Region Win

MACON, Ga. – FPD sophomore Kate Patterson scored 20 points and nabbed 13 rebounds as the Lady Vikings (4-9, 3-3 Reg. 7A) snapped a two-game skid by defeating the Twiggs County Lady Cobras (0-17, 0-6 Reg. 7A) 57-50 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center on Tuesday night, Jan. 20.

“I thought we came out with good energy,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “We were able to get the girls involved early on offense and defense and that translated throughout much of the game.”

The Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Cobras 37-23 over the first two quarters of action and held off a late Twiggs comeback in the fourth quarter.

Griffin said FPD’s balanced scoring was a good sign moving forward. Twelve different Lady Vikings recorded a point in Tuesday’s contest.

“We’ve been trying to get our girls more active on the offensive and defensive end,” Griffin said. “We caused a lot of turnovers against a very athletic Twiggs team. We need more of that the further we progress this season.”

FPD drained three 3-pointers in the contest, two coming from sophomore Bailey Ruble, who chipped in with eight points.

The Lady Vikings will now turn their attention to the Stratford Academy on Friday, Jan. 23 in another Region-7 game.

The Eaglettes defeated the Lady Vikings 40-23 on Jan. 6 at FPD. Stratford bested Wilkinson County 63-32 on Tuesday night.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Grady Smith Gymnasium.
