Swimming Recaps from Jan. 23 Middle Georgia Championship

MACON, Ga. – The FPD swimming program hosted the Middle Georgia Championship Meet at the Northside Pool on Friday night, Jan. 23, with the Vikings earning a first place finish and the Lady Vikings garnering second.

“It was a great night for our swimming programs,” FPD head coach Elizabeth Leslein said. “All of our swimmers continue to improve on their personal times and have worked hard all season long. We are really proud of them.”

Highlighting the events of the night was the performance of FPD’s Vivanna Chang.

A freshman, Chang qualified for the GHSA State Meet at Georgia Tech with a first place qualifying time of 5:38.92 in the 500-Yard Freestyle and 2:06.58 in the 200-Yard Freestyle event.

“We are excited for Vivianna,” Leslein said. “Qualifying for the State Meet in swimming is not easy. She will represent herself, our teams and our school really well.”

Meanwhile, the Vikings finished with 153 points on the night to earn their fourth win of the 2014-15 season.

FPD’s Hanny Marone placed first in the 200-Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 2:15.34. He also took the top finish in the 100-Yard Breaststroke at 1:14.71.

Ru Yi Marone also had a memorable night for the Vikings, taking first in the 100-Yard Freestyle at 57.54 in the 13-man field.
